The Bike Route

The route in detail can be viewed interactively with this Google Maps link or by clicking on the small map below.  In text it can be summarized this way:

Starting at 10:45 at the Mt Tom power plant (200 Northampton Road, Holyoke) and with a police escort, proceed along Rt 5 and then Pleasant Street to the central intersection of Northampton.  Turn right and follow Bridge Street to Sheldon Field (about 1/2 mile short of I-91.)  Go left there on Day Avenue to the bike path, and follow the bike path to Amherst.  Leave the path at the South Pleasant Street exit and follow that street to the north part of the Amherst Common. Total, about 11 miles.  Bikers joining along the route can do so at Sheldon Field in Northampton about 11:30  (their distance, 7 miles) or behind Whole Foods in Hadley about noon (3 miles.)

For those biking to get to Mt Tom, you can either follow the road/highway or take the Manhan rail trail around The Oxbow.  From the center of Northampton it is 2.9 miles by road or 6.4 miles by the bike path.
