Materials suggested by Richard Stein:

1. OpEd in the Daily Hampshire Gazette regarding coal burning at Mt. Tom, and OpEd in The Republican, both by Peter Vickery and Dick Stein.

2. Sierra Club report on coal burning: A Clean Northeast - Moving the Northeast beyond Coal and toward a Clean Energy Future

3. The book by Ray Bradley, “Global Warming and Political Intimidation”.  The following is a “Letter” I have submitted to the Springfield Republican about it:

The appearance of a recently published book by the UMass Press, “Global Warming and Political Intimidation” by Ray Bradley, Director of the UMass Climate Research Center has alarmed me about the seriousness of this matter.  There has been frustrating apathy among the public and media concerning this problem which may threaten our much greater than those leading to the ice ages millions of years ago that led to mass migrations and extinction of species.  I view the motives of those obstructing constructive efforts for dealing with these problems as being selfish and immoral in regarding current gains as being more important that mankindʼs future. I strongly recommend the readers to learn about these for the benefit of the lives of their descendants.

I have a copy of the powerpoints used by Ray for a presentation on this (as well as of my own), some figures from which may be useful for posters. A pdf printout of this powerpoint is available on request.

4.   I also have a powerpoint on “Energy and Global Warming” that may be useful. A pdf printout of this powerpoint is available on request.

5. The TV interview of Ted Wysocki and me on the WGBY program “Connecting Point”   about Biochar and may be viewed at http://vimeo.com/24236192

6.   I have a powerpoint on “All About Biochar” which was used at a recent workshop for school teachers which contains figures that  could be used as posters. A pdf printout of this powerpoint is available on request.

7.   I am hoping, hopefully together with help from those from the Pioneer Valley Biochar Initiative  (PVBI) (in Belchertown), to have a “table” on biochar at the Sept. 24 event.  This will contain:
  a.   Samples of biochar to be offered with directions for use.
  b.   Demonstrations and/or posters showing plant growth with and without biochar.
  c.   Exhibit of simple equipment for making biochar.
  d.   Information about the PVBI and its program,

I hope to be able to provide a table and tent. Please contact me regarding desires for posters as described above.

Regards,

Dick Stein
